London, England, October 23, 2009 – An extraordinary new version of a popular game is spreading across England faster than the latest flu.

This game is none other than SIM rugby, the newest fad that’s far more popular than tennis, solitaire or fox chivying.

Haven’t heard of SIM rugby? This is the old familiar ball game, where they’ve replaced the ball with a SIM card. Those who play it say it is addictive beyond belief, players ready to be on field till they drop.

Despite being a free flowing game, the urge to win can be overwhelming. One player grabbed a snail, instead of the SIM, and ran across the line, expecting to be warmly embraced by his teammates. Imagine his chagrin when, instead of being carried about on his teammates shoulders, he learned that they preferred to give him a few kicks where it hurts most.

The man who gave the world this glorious game is none other than Robert “Bob” Babbington, presently the World President and Global Guardian-in-Chief of the United World-Wide Intra-Continental SIM Rugby Federation (or WPGGCUWWICSRF for short). He says: “…if I could, I would make it compulsory for every human being on this planet to play SIM rugby.” He believes that classic rugby, with the oval ball, can be improved, just like everything else. The latest version is expected to take rugby to heights never even imagined by classic rugby players and fans.

SIM rugby came about by chance. While Bob and a couple of teammates were warming up for a rugby game, he casually tossed his SIM to his teammates. Back and forth, back and forth went the SIM, the friends marveling at the grace with which it flew across. It seemed like a combination Frisbee-cum-spaceship-cum-kingfisher. Suddenly the three friends just stopped and looked at each other…they knew that this was it; it was the birth of the world’s best loved game.

SIM rugby is all about passing it on. For the convenience of beginners Bob has already developed some videos on how to make passes such as The Billy Pass, The Cheese Pass, The Frisbee Pass and, most difficult of all, The Giraffe Pass. Check out the website below to see a live demonstration of how to make these passes.

Be warned, the game is highly addictive. SIM rugby players have been known to do strange things, including walking into a total stranger’s home, and asking the householder, “What the devil are you doing here, eh?”

At the time of going to press, England are the reigning world champions, though things can change pretty fast, so intense is the global fascination for this thrill-an-hour game.

As Joe Worsley, England flanker put it: ”I used to play the oval ball game last year, but like I say, that, that is so last year. This is where it is at – SIM Rugby.”

England’s national SIM rugby is sponsored by O2, the mobile phone company.
